The graphic works displayed in this digital gallery are primarily prints. The processes which I have used in the creation of my works reflect a merging of electonic technology (inkjet) and the art of the traditional acid bit copper plate techniques of centuries past.

Drawing has been my skill. In etchings, I saw a transformation take place that got me excited. Not only was the image reversed but the bite of the acid gave in a new tactical intensity. Its as if a mysterious hand re-drew the graphic, not always the way you had hoped, but always opening fresh opportunities.

The medium has so very many variables. The strength of the acid , the moisture of the room the tack of the ink...the deftness of the printer's wiping of the plate.  There's no doubt that a well-made ink jet print (on archival paperstock) looks every bit as "rich" as a pulled etching, but I will bet that that signed etching has more spirit and character. Its a combination of the studio chop mark, the artist's signiture (and the occasional misplaced thumbprint) which will mark that image as unique beyond its "limited edition".

Ibis Press Studio

My first venture into a serious commitment with intaglio started with my 30" x 52" planetary drive star wheel etching press. Married only a few years, I bought it new from the maker Mr. Andre Beaudoin (American French Tool) The area in which the press sits is clean and well lite and provides me with the intimacy necessary with visual concentration. It is below ground. I find the slight dampness to work to the favor of printing. Dampened paper stays stable longer for multiple plate runs. There are 2 cats which prowl the premises and they have been known to walk where they are not permitted
