The great Door of the Red Fort

On a previous trip to India, I visited a number of 18th century military forts. One of these is the great Agra fort next to the Taj Mahal. The entrance was framed in wonderful red sandstone and was once the military and political hub of the Muglah Empire. Inside the door was a sally port or second gate from which archers could trap and contain an invader. The humidity and heat permeated everything and one came away wondering how people could work 200 years ago in these conditions.  This chine collé etching is of the open door with light raking it’s weathered facade.
