I
have not had the opportunity to learn the newest
movement towards non-toxic printmaking techniques.
This is something I am looking forward to taking
a workshop on as I have always struggled with
the "acid issue" associated with traditional
etching. At this time I am using one strength
of ferric chloride acid for copperplates exclusively.
I have
two different strengths of hydrochloric acid
for zinc and have not looked further because of time
constraints.
All my
etching is done in an unheated workspace removed
from the studio itself. This is due to the obvious
corrosive qualities of the acids.
The
hotplate used at IBIS is restaurant hotplate
which operates from 220 V output. I have
an adjustable stainless steel sheet which is used
as a the top of the hotplate surface,
I am on
the lookout for a 2' x 3' used professional hotplate
but have had no luck as yet. Drop me an email
if you know where I can get one at a reasonable
price.
