"The act of printing has always seemed to me a miracle, just such a miracle as the growing up of a tiny seed of grain to an ear - an everyday miracle, even the greater because it happens everyday. One drawing is sown on the stone or the etching plate, and a harvest is reaped from it." - from Van Gogh's letters
I came to printmaking as a student at the University of Toledo around 1973. I was introduced to etching and lithography by the instructor Peter Elloin. Mr. Elloin excelled in helping students find their artistic center. He also was not one to cottle those who were not driven to see the full potential of the printmaking media. During his years in Iowa, he earned his MFA in printmaking under Mauricio Lasansky considered by many to be an early proponent of printmaking in North American academic communities.
Interesting opportunity to access Twitter which opened up a whole new page of connecting to the outside community of printmakers. The UK seems to be very active there. For those lookig for a video to explain the Intaglio etching process as it was (and still is ) practiced, take a look at this video.
