About
IBIS Press

If
you love the fine art intaglio print as I have, you may have found your way
to our site. I say "our site " because it involved my family along
with friends who also still harboured a passion for the art of the intaglio
print. Much
of my love of printmaking comes from my exposure as a an undergraduate art
student. I was fortunate to have studied with a student of Gabour Peterdi,
Peter Elloian. He didn't teach printmaking as a device for creating "multiples".
He let his students discover the transformation potential of the etched and
inked line.
Drawing
has been my skill. In etchings, I saw a transformation take
place that got
me
excited.
Not only
was the image
reversed
but the
bite
of the acid gave in a new tactical intensity. Its as if a mysterious hand
re-drew the graphic, not always the way you had hoped, but always opening
fresh opportunities.
The
medium has so very many variables. The strength of the acid , the moisture
of the room the tack of the ink...the deftness of the printer's wiping of
the plate. Our world is becoming so standardized. There's no doubt that a
well-made ink jet print (on archival paperstock) looks every bit as "rich"
as a pulled etching, but I will bet that that signed etching has more spirit
and character. Its a combination of the studio chop mark the artist's signiture
(and the occasional misplaced thumbprint) which will mark that image as unique
beyond its "limited edition".

IBIS
press is owned
and run by Craig Fisher, Painter and Printmaker. Craig's work is in a number
of public and private collections throughout the midwest. As a graduate of
the University of Toledo with a degree in printmaking, Craig supported and
supplemented his family and his printmaking interest as a Art Director for
over 25 years. Leaving the commercial advertising, Craig only recently began
channeling his efforts more directly into the creation of fine art prints.
